Debapriya Chakrabarti has recently joined PRAXXIS as a Lecturer in Architecture, infusing the atelier with her expertise and commitment to feminist principles in academia.
Teaching Role: In her current capacity, Debapriya leads the M Arch Year 2 students within the PRAXXIS atelier. Her influence extends further as she is leading a Research Methods Workshop module for M Arch Year 1, through the theme of Reading Cities from the Ground.
Academic Background: Prior to this role, Debapriya held the prestigious position of an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow in Architecture at The University of Manchester. Her research spotlighted the transformative role of infrastructure in shaping practices of idol-making in Kumartuli, Kolkata, delving into informal practices, livelihoods, and sustainable urban transitions within marginalized communities in the Global South.
PRAXXIS - Advancing Feminist Discourse: PRAXXIS, an explicitly feminist teaching atelier, seamlessly integrates across BA3 and M Arch courses at MSA. Debapriya's involvement serves to invigorate the atelier's mission, stimulating vibrant and intersectional feminist dialogues within the school and broader academic circles.
Dr. Debapriya Chakrabarti’s arrival fortifies PRAXXIS' commitment to progressive academia, fostering an inclusive environment for critical discussions and innovative approaches to architecture.

I'm thrilled to share a major milestone on my journey. My upcoming book, "Heritage, Crafting Communities, and Urban Transformation: Durga Puja Festival, Kolkata" is set to be published on October 6th! 📖✨
🏙️ This research has been a labour of passion and dedication, and I'm excited to bring it to you all. In this book, I emphasis the importance of empowering marginalised communities to actively participate in decision-making processes within policy domains. It adds to the ongoing discussions within the social sciences regarding infrastructure rights and citizenship, shedding light on the dynamics of human-infrastructure interactions in the informal neighbourhoods of the global South.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your encouragement and enthusiasm have been a driving force behind the completion of this book. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to ESRC for their generous support through the Postdoctoral Fellowship funding, which has made this endeavor possible.
Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the publication date. I'm eager to share more about the book's content, its relevance, and the journey behind its creation. Thank you all for being a part of this exciting moment!
